The topic of transgender athletes competing in professional sports is a sensitive one. There is much controversy when deciding if transgenders have an advantage against the other players and teams. It was said in the article that on average, transgender women are taller, bigger and stronger and for sports like volleyball this IS an advantage. Therefore, transgender women who go through puberty as men have advantages against other players that simply cannot be eliminated by hormone therapy. This said, if a transgender were to compete, hormone altering should be enforced regularly to ensure a more fair game for all other competitors. When allowing transgender people to compete, the Olympic committee should confirm that no other performance enhancing drugs are used when playing and make sure the game will fair for all.
Transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in professional sports, although how controversial it is when talked about there aren't that many advantages besides possibly height. Not all transgender women are necessarily stronger, or bigger and with hormone therapy/altering it diminishes any possible advantages that their might be. With that being said, hormone altering would be enforced to provide all athletes with an equal and fair game which they expect. Finally, as for deciding eligibility and whether or not hormone levels should be the only factor; It's clear that hormone levels would be the main factor, along with every other eligibility rule any other athlete would have to match in order to play.
Transgender athletes should completely be allowed to compete in professional sports. Although it is a seemingly controversial and sensitive topic, there is absolutely no reason that they should not be able to compete. Often times there are no advantages that transgender athletes have over regular athletes (besides potentially height, but that is not individualized to just transgender people). With this being said, I do believe that hormone altering should be enforced in order to ensure a fair game for all athletes involved. I think it would be unfair to attempt to alter a transgender person's experience going through transition, such as not allowing them to take hormonal supplements to aid in their transition. But with this, it is completely reasonable that these athletes (like all others) should go through tests to ensure no performance-enhancing drugs are involved. Along with matching every other eligibility rule, hormone levels should certainly be at the forefront as a deciding factor as to whether or not a transgender athlete should be able to compete. Meeting this requirement is essential to providing a fair game, and it is important that transgender athletes meet this guideline.
1. Should transgender athletes be allowed to compete in professional sports? Transgender should faintly be allowed to compete in professional sports. They are physically the same as any professional athlete expect believe they have a different sexual orientation. As long as no illegal medication is taken to enhance their athletics, there is no reason why transgender athletes can’t be in professional sports. 2. How regularly should hormone altering be enforced? Unless the hormone drug is affecting the quality of the play, endangering the athlete, or giving the athlete an unfair advantage, I don’t see why it needs to be restricted. They should be held to the same standard as another athlete in the league. 3. Should hormone levels be the only factor in deciding eligibility? No, there should be no doctors in deciding transgenders eligibility if they are not jeopardizing the game. If they are breaking the rules of the game, they should be held to the same standard as all the other athletes in the league. I also think transgender athletes should be able to join their desired men vs. women sports. Whatever gender they associate with, the sports league they should be able to join.
Transgenders athletes should be allowed to in professional sports just like any other man or women who wants to play a sport. They are no different from any other person and if they are at a level to compete they should be able to play. Unless the hormone is increasingly elevating the players performance no significant action or rules should be set into place. They should still be tested just like any other player for any extra substance being abused to enhance performance. But just because on is a transgender they should get no extra testing, rules, or attention in general.
I think transgenders should be allowed to play in sports as should any man or women who chooses to do so. We live in a world that is starting to be accepting to everyone, transgenders are not an excpetion to that rule. I think to keep the competition fair hormone levels in transgenders should be monitered in some way, I do not know how often is an acceptable ammount. I do not think that this should be the only factor though. We do not go around measuring hormone levels in other athletes and even if we did, regardless of the levels there is nothing that the league comissioners (or whoever monitors these things) can do about it.
I believe that transgender athletes should be allowed to participate in professional sports. Simply put, those who are transgender are people too. They should be able to enjoy the same liberties as everyone else, and playing sports at any level is no exception to that. Along with this, hormone altering should not be enforced an an absurdly strict manner. With that said, however, if it significantly improves an athlete's performance, then it should be monitored. While hormones could be a factor in determining eligibility, it should ultimately be the skill and sexual identity of the athlete that remains the primary focus in this regard.
Yes I think that Transgenders should be allowed to compete in professional sports like every man and woman. Everyone has the right to enjoy sports. But to keep everything fair for all athletes Hormone levels should be tested and watched regularly, so there is no advantage. But other than that I think that Transgenders should be able to play with the gender they identify themselves as. Hormone levels should be a factor of eligibility because there is risk of others getting hurt.
I believe they should be allowed to participate in pro sports. I think in some cases it can lead to a transgender athlete gaining an unfair advantage, but if a person is not allowed to compete because they’re transgender then there’s an issue. If the competition is not tilted one way unfairly then there is no problem. With the hormone altering, once again if it has no effect on the physical ability of a transgender athlete then no rules should be enforced, but once people start abusing the hormones to gain an unfair advantage then more extreme testing will be necessary. I think it has to be a serious thought. If Hormones are causing an unfair advantage then they should really be the only factor considered. Honestly any other reason would should just be prejudice against transgender people. The only measure that should be important is fairness.
Should transgender athletes be allowed to compete in professional sports? Yes they should be able to compete because it is discriminating transgender if they wouldn't be allowed to play. It would just be unfair. To keep sports fair, hormone altering should be enforced often, just to make sure no one is taking advantage of a certain sport. The only factor in deciding eligibility should be if its fair that they are competing or not.
I think that transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete in professional sports only because of the clear advantage a transgender man would have in women's sports. I support the fact that they are trying to break barriers and be a role model for younger kids, but it would just be too big of a game changer for someone having or taking more hormones. I don't know much about hormones to know how to regulate them, but there should obviously be a limit. If there is a normalish level that most people have, then athletes should be forced to stay around that area. I don't think that hormone levels should be the only thing monitored, but I also don't know enough about transgender to really create a limit on what or how much of something they should have.
I do belive that transgender people should be able to play in professional sports. If they are not allow to do it, it would seem like some type of freedom is being taken away. Regarding hormane alterning, some rules should be enforced because it could be unfair to other athletes but then again if the athlete is not having an advantage I think it's alright. I don't think it should be the only factor regarding eligibility but it should be one.
Transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in professional sports because they have the right to. The league they enter should have a policy on transgender athletes so people can know. I think the hormone should be checked and see how they relate to either the boys or girls league they enter. If the hormones are alter and unfair then that league should have a policy on it to make it fair. There should be other factors then just hormones, they should also look to other people in that league. I do not know how the leagues would enforce the hormone levels and what they would do if it was unfair. The league would have to come up with a policy to make it fair and also so people know about it.
I believe that transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in professional sports. I think that while it would be complicated, it is possible to have transgender athletes compete fairly as competitive athletes with the right regulations and rules. I think that it would be necessary to make sure that their hormones were concurrent with set standards and that their hormone usage was not being altered to give them an advantage. I think that as long as there are set regulations on hormones and any other outside supplements, there should not be very many other regulations put into place against transgender athletes.
This is a really tough one because I couldn’t be more liberal about my feelings towards others and their gender and sexuality choices. I actually believe in people’s liberties unlike many Americans who don’t seem to embrace the fact that this is a free country. People’s choices are theirs to make. But then it becomes a professional and public choice when it comes to something where they might have an unfair advantage. This is where I’m torn.
People need to be free to do what they want, but competition must be fair in the Olympics. If someone has more power in the form of muscle mass, speed, or frame because of a sexual transformation I don’t think I could allow that person to play. I saw the science clearly in this piece though and it said she had a bigger frame with less muscle because of the hormone treatment and that actually made her less of a player in the backcourt. There seems to be real disadvantages here. But I’m just not convinced, I guess. Her arms are huge, not that a woman can’t get huge arms, and she’s the tallest player on the team too, not that women can’t be as tall as 6’3”. This is honestly so tough for me. My dad was telling me about the NCAA player Brittney Griner who could dunk and people worried that the 6’9” girl was a man because she was so broad shouldered and didn’t really have developed breasts. She wrote a book about how hard it was for her as a kid and all her bullying.
As for the hormone level checking, this shoots my liberal views and privacy view to pieces too. I guess I’d want to monitor these women regularly to make sure their testosterone levels do not shoot right back up. I’d invade their privacy monthly I guess. It’s so tough because I don’t care that people want to change and they can take any job other than directly competing against other women. I’m not saying women are weak either, but there are real differences or why would the Olympic committee even test for hormones?
I guess hormone levels should be the only thing checked. People do develop differently. Brittney Griner was a born a girl so they should not invade her privacy by checking on her physically in any way. There’s the runner Caster Semenya, that my dad told me about too. She was very muscular and very fast. There’s an Indian runner too who is always being investigated. Semenya was subjected to “sex verification” testing because she was so fast and she was found to have “hyperandrogenism,” which means she had a lot of testosterone in her body. She won a gold medal in the 800 meter race in Rio, but many people are angry she gets to race. She doesn’t win everything though.
I don’t want to subject women to physical measurements of the shoulders or legs. I guess hormones are enough, but even that sound tough, as Semenya was born with raised levels. This is the worst prompt. I just don’t have real answers.
My answer may not be the popular one, but I do not believe transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in professional sports. In no way am I against transgenders. I admire their bravery and completely support how they choose to live their life. But when it comes to sports, I believe that the hormones being taken alter the competition. Steroids are classified as PED's, because they enhance the level of play of an athlete. I do not believe that those who are taking steroids, transgender or not, should be allowed to participate in any professional sports. Sports are about testing raw talent, so to many, these drugs may seem to be an unfair advantage. I believe these hormone levels should be the deciding factor. It's no secret that men and women are biologically different, so, even on hormones, it could be an unfair advantage.
I believe that transgenders should be given the opportunity to play professional sports under the condition that they do not have an advantage due to the fact that biologically, their bodies are different from those that they are competing with. I think that for males who are transgender will have a easier time playing their respective sports against females as opposed to females who are transgender competing against males. I think regulating hormones is the most important thing when talking about this topic. The playing field should be even for transgenders that are trying to play professionally. I think that hormone levels should be the only factor when deciding eligibility because this is the biggest and evident variable when a transgender wants to compete professionally.
